2008 Olympics - Basketball - Where Are They Now? Isiah Thomas

The interesting part about NBA legend Isiah Thomas' Olympic career is that, essentially, it never happened. The closest Thomas ever came to suiting up for Team USA was in 1980 after a stellar freshman campaign with the University of Indiana. It was then when Thomas was named to his first - and only - Olympic team. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, 1980 also marked the only year the United States opted to boycott the Moscow summer games in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979.

Thomas would get one more shot at the Olympics in 1992, but was passed over by the selection committee in favor of Utah Jazz point guard John Stockton - a decision that Thomas would go on to criticize in the media. Some go as far as to credit Thomas' rivalry with Michael Jordan as a contributing factor in why he was left off the team.

At the time of this writing (January 2008), Isiah Thomas can be found butchering the once-proud New York Knicks franchise where he has acted as President of Basketball Operations since 2003 and recently in the 2006-07 season took over as Head Coach.
