Background:

Kidd was a highly-touted high school prospect that was so good he was playing with NBA players such as Gary Payton during the summers. He was compared to Magic Johnson because of his above average size for a point guard and his extraordinary court vision. Kidd is a two-time Mr. Calilfornia, helped his high school team win consecutive state titles, and holds the all-time prep mark for assists (1,155).

Kidd only played for two seasons at California before declaring for the NBA Draft. His number 5 jersey is retired by the school. Kidd started the Jason Kidd Foundation whose aim is to improve the welfare of youth in the community.

His Career Thus Far:

Kidd has proven to be every bit as good as many thought he would be when he was in high school. He is basically a triple-double waiting to happen and is third on the all-time NBA list behind Oscar Robertson (181) and Magic Johnson (138) with 87 as of the end of the 2006-07 season. Kidd is the New Jersey Nets' all-time leader with 49.

Known mostly for his deft passing skills, Kidd is also one of the better guards at rebounding and an excellent defender. He is one of the best point guards to ever play in the league and has a space waiting for him in Springfield, MA home of the NBA Hall of Fame.
