About Basketball Contributor Bio - Anne-Marie McGintee

Anne-Marie McGintee

By Dennis Velasco, About.com

Anne-Marie McGintee is a freelance writer and aspiring screenwriter/filmmaker. She works in Series Development and Production at MTV in New York City. Her days are spent trying to create the network’s next big hit a la Laguna Beach and The Hills. When she’s not busy corrupting the world’s youth and gossiping about the latest feud between Lauren and Heidi (if I lost you, please proceed to the second paragraph), Anne-Marie is engrossed in sports.

Anne-Marie is the modern day Clark Kent. What most people don’t know about her, including some co-workers and friends, is that she spends her free time obsessing over and writing about professional ball. She is a jock at heart and made her debut into the blogging world in July 2006. As an avid Nets fan, she translates her passion for the game and love for the New Jersey Nets into her blog site Nets Fan In New York. Her website contains a healthy dose of Nets news intermixed with occasional satire for those stories that are too grave or ridiculous to tackle head on.

As the first born, her father took her under his wing and brainwashed her into a crazy Nets, Jets and Mets fan. Growing up, Anne-Marie played every sport known to man from field hockey (which she was recruited to play in college), basketball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, golf, and volleyball. Even in gym class, she was known for her wicked badminton serve and as the only girl who loved flag football month. Anne-Marie was the point guard of her Varsity high school basketball team, which made her a lover of all floor generals especially her beloved Jason Kidd.

Anne-Marie is no stranger to the sports writing world. As an English Literature major at Princeton University, she was one of the few female contributing writers for the sports section of the campus paper. The boys learned all too quickly that the phrase, "What do you know about sports, you’re just a girl," should not be said aloud in her presence, especially with a Jack Daniels in hand. Broke and without a ride, most of her Nets game-watching was relegated to the tube during these four years. During this short interim, she suffered a severe case of Port Authority withdrawal, missing the rogue, nose-diving pigeons and smelly, overcrowded bus rides to Continental Arena.

This season preview analysis for About.com is her "coming out" party in the blogging world. Over the past year, Anne-Marie has received countless emails from readers greeting her with "dude" and "man." This would be an insult under normal circumstances but instead it brings a giant smile to her face knowing that she can hang with the big boys in giving NBA coverage.
