NBA Round Table - 2007-08 Quarter Season Review

By Dennis Velasco, About.com

The 2007-08 NBA season is at the quarter season mark and it's time to look at how NBA players and NBA teams are doing thus far. Who's the best, the worst, and the most surprising? The following writers weigh those questions and give their answers and analysis here:

LET'S ROLL EM OUT!

1. Which team has been the best thus far this season?

Chip: The best team so far has been the Boston Celtics in my opinion. Not only do they have a great record, but they have rarely been in close games.

Scott: To me, this comes down to "team" versus team. The best "team" to this point has been the Boston Celtics. It sounds kind of cool to say that they have lost half of their games to my Cavaliers, but they have had a very, very good start. But they are in the East and they are just three main players.

The true best team to this point has been the San Antonio Spurs. Not may teams in the Association can lose the MVP of the league and still rattle off the wins like the Spurs have. From Tim Duncan down to Matt Bonner, this team looks like the ones to beat yet again.

Nick: Umm... Derrr... The Knicks! Wait a minute, I take that back. My answer is the Boston Celtics. How can you argue with 19-2?

Dennis: I'm sorry to all the non-believers and haters out there, but if you bring up that the Celtics have mostly been beating up on mediocre teams to achieve their record, well, that's what you're supposed to do. And it's not like thos games have been close, either. Yes, we know about the Big Three - Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen - however, Rajon Rondo does his thing from the lead guard position, as well as Kendrick Perkins. In the starting lineup, the aforementioned players are finding their groove. The bench is getting there, but still have some time to grow. Once that rotation is set AND clicking, riding off the high of the Big Three... forget it. You can put this team in the Western Conference and they'd still be tops. And the defense is just as good as the potent offense? Ridiculous!
